In cooperation with the Organization for Economic

The International Study for Teaching and Learning (TALIS) is one of the international tests and studies applied by the EEC in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the National Center for Assessment (NCA), in collaboration with OECD, which oversees the study in more than 40 countries, so as to allow teachers and school leaders to contribute to the analysis of the status of education and the development of its policies. The study aims to open the way for teachers and school leaders to participate in the evaluation and enhancement of education by providing their views on the educational environment, benefiting from results obtained by other countries participating in the study and programs they employ to improve the educational environment, identifying  the level of the current educational environment and the effects of the enhancement programs, compared with results obtained from the study in the previous session. The study  aims to provide educators and decision makers with indicators and results derived from the opinions and experiences of people in the field. The study was carried out for the first time in 2008, and now it is conducted every 5 years. The Director of the Department of Communication and Information and Spokesman of  the NCA Ibrahim Al-Rasheed said that on this day Tuesday, 15 Sha'ban 1439 H, the NCA begins the actual implementation of this study which will last until 29 Sha’ban 1439H, with participation of (200) school leaders and about (3800) teachers from (200) intermediate schools across the Kingdom. He noted that the experimental  application was carried for the first time in the Kingdom during the period from 25 Jumada II until 3 Rajab 1439H, with the participation of (20) school leaders and (326) teachers from (20) intermediate schools across the Kingdom. The NCA, an affiliate of the EEC conducted this study in cooperation with the OECD. Mr. Al-Rasheed added that the study does not require prior registration by teachers or school leaders. Instead,  teachers and school leaders are nominated by OECD, without any intervention from participating countries. The NCA’s role is  to coordinate with nominated schools to ensure their suitability for the study and readiness for the agreed upon application period, taking into consideration that the study does not require any prior preparation. It only requires that teachers and school leaders answer all questions in the questionnaire in a credible and transparent manner in order to depict a true picture of the education in the Kingdom. The participation in the questionnaire is voluntary and is carried out through the website of the OECD, noting that participants’ privacy is strictly observed. The participation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia represented by the EEC in the international study TALIS is important for its contribution to the analysis of the status of education and the development  of its policies by drawing on the experiences of teachers and school leaders. In addition, the study allows policy makers in the Kingdom to identify similar challenges encountered by other countries participating in the study and learn from their experiences and from the policies they implement in this regard. Results obtained from such international studies may serve as one of the indicators of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
